4 surprising superfoods you should be feeding your dog

As many of us are thinking more about the food we put on our plates, it makes sense that we’re also thinking about what we put in our dog’s bowls. After all, a dog who eats well is more likely to be a healthy dog.

The good news is feeding your furry friend a top-quality diet doesn’t need to be difficult. All of our naturally healthy pet food is packed with wholesome ingredients full of natural goodness. We’ve also just launched a fantastic new Superfoods range for puppies and adult dogs which comes in two great flavours: Natural Turkey with Kale & Quinoa and Natural Lamb with Sweet Potato & Chia Seeds.

Here we take a look at what defines a superfood and shine a spotlight on some of our super ingredients.

What makes a superfood super?

Think of a superfood as one that delivers a big nutritional bang for its buck. Something that contains lots of great, health-supporting things, such as vitamins, minerals, beta-carotene, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. To put it simply, these are foods thought to be beneficial to health, whether that’s human health or dog health.

4 superfoods new

Kale

We all know that green, leafy vegetables are good for us, and it turns out they’re great for dogs too.

Kale is a natural source of antioxidants and high in calcium, iron, potassium, and vitamins A, C, and K. Oh, and as if all that isn’t enough, it’s also a great source of fibre. All hail, kale!

Quinoa

Apart from being a nightmare to pronounce (keen-wah), quinoa has just about everything going for it. It’s a natural source of fibre, and one of the few vegetable sources of complete proteins. It’s gluten-free and easy to digest, and contains folate, magnesium, iron, phosphorous and many phytochemicals. Including this clever little grain in your four-legged friend’s diet will help to keep them in tail-wagging shape.

Sweet potato

These tuberous roots are a natural source of fibre. They are also packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants including beta-carotene, iron, calcium, heart-healthy vitamin A and immune-system-boosting vitamin C.

Chia seeds

These tiny seeds are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with Omega-3, protein, fibre, antioxidants, calcium, iron, magnesium and B vitamins. Small but mighty!

Ingredients you won’t find in healthy dog food

Of course, there would be no point packing our superfoods range with the good stuff if we spoiled that with any of the ‘nasties’. So, just like all our other James Wellbeloved meals, the Superfoods range is nutritionally balanced, hypoallergenic food with only one animal protein that excludes artificial additives and common allergens.
